HONOLULU (KHON2) – Gary Novosel and his wife discovered the benefits of a raw food diet after their dog, Bear, developed allergies and thyroid problems.
Feeding Bear high quality raw food fixed all his allergy issues and he lived to be 17.
After relocating to Hawaii, they realized there wasn’t a locally sourced raw dog food available, so they started making it at home.
This led to the birth of Raw Dog Hawaiʻi in December of 2012.
One year later, they were featured in Island Dog Magazine and the “Best of Honolulu” issue of Honolulu Magazine.
Last year, we were awarded the Veteran Owned Small Business Person of the Year Award.
The success of their food is that it actually solves allergy problems dogs get from eating mass produced, commercial brand foods.
They partner with local farmers and ranchers who believe in sustainable practices.
That includes pasture raised organic chicken, grass-raised and finished beef, and wild venison.
They source their products from Hawaiʻi, with the exception of chicken.
The symptoms their food has helped fix include scratching, chewing and licking paws, ear fungus, rashes, hot spots, shedding, stinky dog smell and smelly poop.
They have sixteen stores that carry their products on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, two farmers markets on Oahu and customers can also order online.
They ship fresh frozen once per week to all Hawaiʻi islands.
