Sydney’s first raw-food cafe has since grown into a small empire.

Sadhana Kitchen, an organic-wholefoods and raw-food cafe, has expanded slowly. It opened in 2012 in a shared space in a Newtown yoga studio, then it moved to Enmore. Now it has set up a second cafe in Bondi.

It took two years to find the ideal beachside spot. The one the team found used to be a Thai restaurant. Founder Maz Valcorza has kept the space’s existing exposed brick. Every light hangs off the end of a copper pipe, as though the plumbing’s been pulled straight out from the walls. It seats 60 and can now offer a dinner service.

The plant-based, ethically sourced fare, sprinkled with the latest “superfoods” (activated grains, nuts and seeds), has attracted a strong following.

Everything is prepared at temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius. “We wanted the least amount of refinement to our ingredients, as long as it’s still hearty, familiar and indulgent,” says Valcorza.

Choose from a selection of nutrient-dense smoothies such as The Warrior with berries, banana, chia seeds and sprouted-brown-rice powder. There are also breakfast bowls of cacao nibs and a popular Cheezeburger, a vegetarian patty topped with homemade vegan cheddar.

“I don’t want people to feel like they’re just going out for a salad,” says Valcorza. “When people leave here, they’re going to feel full.”

The cafe plans to serve pulled-jackfruit tacos and barbecue fries topped with mesquite powder – a sweet Central American superfood made from the ground seeds of the mesquite plant.

Sadhana Kitchen also intends to serve organic picnic hampers it calls “Bondi baskets”. Customers will be able to order them online, pick them up and take them to the beach.

How to Have Great Skin With a Raw Food Diet

Ever notice how raw foodists have great skin? One of the major points supporting a raw food diet is the amazing, youthful appearance that goes along with the weight loss and exuberant energy levels. This article will explain some of the reasons why raw food can lead to youthful skin. We’ll also cover ways that raw foodists may risk damaging their skin over the long term.

Mechanisms of skin aging

Skin aging is a complex process. Dermatologists distinguish two types of aging skin: chronological aging and photoaging. These two aging patterns are typically found at the same time, but have different symptoms. Chronologically aged skin sags due to the breakdown of the underlying elastin fibers, while photoaged skin shows wrinkles and spots of hyperpigmentation.

Both forms of aging occur due to damage caused by inflammation and free radicals in the skin. 2. Protein deficiencies Adequate skin repair requires protein. When you are getting enough protein, your body can do the important work of filling in gaps and wrinkles before they become permanent.

3. High-glycemic inflammation Inflammation-producing toxins like the advanced glycation endproducts we described above can form in the body due to very high blood sugar levels. This is one way that eating too many fruits unbalanced by fiber and protein can paradoxically lead to more wrinkles.

During this time, pet parents should monitor the frequency and consistency of their dog’s stool and adjust the transition accordingly.

Free Raw Food Recipe – Best Blueberry Or Blackberry Pie Raw Recipe

Many people are gradually making the switch from cooked desserts and cooked foods which are causing so many of our health problems today. It doesn’t matter if you’re a raw fooder or eat the standard American diet; you’ll love this raw berry pie recipe and know that you’re doing your body good in the process.

In fact making a raw berry pie does not require turning on the oven and can be made in virtually minutes. I have often timed myself and can make this pie in ten minutes or less if the ingredients are assembled. Equipment: food processor.

This is my own creation, one of many vegetarian, vegan and raw food recipes that I have developed and created over the past few years as a raw fooder – eating raw foods, having cured myself of breast cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis and sinus infections along with many other ailments.

You can use the pie crust for dozens of other types of raw food recipes or live pies including raw or live apple pie. I’ve experimented with dozens of variations and tried various ingredients but I’ve found this raw blackberry or blueberry pie recipe is the best, fastest and easiest recipe to make. In fact if you’re going to have company coming over you can whip this free raw food diet recipe up in no time.

Helen’s Best Raw Berry Pie – the ingredients: 12 organic medjool dates, 1 cup raw pecans, 4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries, blackberries or boysenberries and 2 bananas.

For the crust put 1 cup of raw pecans in a food processor and grind until fine. Add 8 pitted organic medjool dates and process until mixed fairly well. Place into a 9-inch pie plate.

For the binder mix two bananas, 8 berries or so for color and 4 medjool dates in a food processor – use the same food processor – don’t need to wash it. Remove to large bowl and carefully fold in 4 cups of fresh or frozen or partially frozen blueberries, boysenberries or blackberries. Spread berry-binder mixture on top of the crust. Decorate with boysenberries or blackberries around the edge of the pie. Refrigerate.

This live or raw berry pie is a family favorite and one I have served on many occasions to company who are not aware they are eating something healthy containing all the vibrant nutrients – nothing cooked out.

This pie is really good with boysenberries too. You can also slice some fresh kiwi on the top or other fruits that won’t turn color.

One nice thing to know about fixing any raw food recipe is that you can eliminate, substitute or add ingredients easily and it will still taste delicious! In this vegan or raw food diet recipe – you may only have one banana on hand for example or you can make half the recipe. You can substitute the pecans for a mixture of one half cup pecans and one half cup walnuts, or all walnuts.

If you live in an area where you have tons of wild blackberries you can make this pie for pennies. Pick blueberries cheaply in the summer and freeze them for year-round use, although fresh berries are always the best. You can make raw berry pies with this free raw food recipe year-round and you’ll feel good too knowing you have served your friends and family something that will help them better their health and help them lose weight if they need to too.

We didn’t speak on many thing about tennis, but I liked him a lot, how he was on court. I watched some videos on Youtube. Raw Food Protein Sources – Where Do I Get My Protein on a Raw Food Diet?

When I started on my raw foods journey in 2005 one of the most frequently asked questions from family and friends was “where do you get your protein?” Now I hardly ever get this question; however, recently my sister expressed that she still has concern about my protein needs. It was then I realized how important this question really is and, as a health advocate, it is my responsibility to fully explain this topic to those who are interested or concerned. Here is my report…

First, let’s talk about what protein is…

Our body consists primarily of water. The second most abundant building block of our body is protein. Our hair, skin, nails, organs, muscles, bones, and every single cell is made up of protein molecules. All protein molecules consist of a chain of amino acids. You may have heard the term “essential amino acids” – these are amino acids that cannot be synthesized by our human body. To date we know of 9 essential amino acids humans must include in their diet to receive their full protein requirement. When you get down to it, all plants have at least some protein because all plants have at least one or more amino acids – the building blocks of protein.

The difference between complex proteins found in meat, dairy, and fish and the individual amino acids found in plant food is explained very well by Victoria Boutenko in her book “Green for Life:”

“It is clear that the body has to work a lot less when creating protein from the assortment of individual amino acids from greens, rather than the already combined, long molecules from protein, assembled according to the foreign patterns of a totally different creature such as a cow or a chicken. . .

“Imagine that you have to make a wedding dress for your daughter. Consuming the complex proteins that we get from cows or other creatures is like going to the second hand store, and buying many other people’s used dresses, coming home and spending several hours ripping apart pieces of the dresses that you like and combining them into a new dress for your daughter. This alternative will take a lot of time and energy and will leave a great deal of garbage. you could never make a perfect dress this way.

“Consuming individual amino acids is like taking your daughter to a fabric store to buy beautiful new fabric, lace, buttons, ribbons, threads, and pearls. With these essential elements you can make a beautiful dress that fits her unique body perfectly.

“Similarly, when you eat greens, you ‘purchase’ new amino acids, freshly made by sunshine and chlorophyll, which the body will use to rebuild its parts according to your own unique DNA.

“Contrary to this, your body would have a hard time trying to make a perfect molecule of protein out of someone else’s molecules, which consist of totally different combinations of amino acids. Plus, your body would most likely receive a lot of unnecessary pieces that are hard to digest. These pieces would be floating around in your blood like garbage for a long time, causing allergies and other health problems.”

So you may be asking, “If I can get adequate sources of protein from plants, why do I crave meat?” David Wolfe, author of “Sunfood Diet Success System” states:

“When someone says, ‘I need protein,’ they often need and want fat. Most people and nutritionists cannot distinguish between the desire for fat and the desire for protein . . . . Imagine a newborn human baby doubling its body weight in several months on a diet of breast milk. Most breast milk is less than 2% protein and even the heavier ‘hind-milk’ is only 10% protein. Breast milk itself, is a fat-dominant food . . . . . Real strength and building material comes from green-leafed vegetables, seeds, and superfoods where the amino acids are found. These are our true ‘protein foods.’ They contain all the amino acids we require. In addition, Max Planck Institute reports that half of the protein in food is destroyed by cooking. This means the normal 25-30% protein which meat is reported to have is usually reduced to only about 13-15%.

Plant protein, in my opinion, is a higher and lighter vibration. It is also easier for our bodies to digest and absorb and this is why I choose to receive my protein in this way. * Most green leafy vegetable

* Hemp seeds (36.6% protein – making them, by weight, the highest protein food on earth, with the exception of algae. In addition, 65% percent of hemp protein is Edestin, considered by scientists to be the most easily digestible type of protein)

* Flax seeds

* Chia seeds

* Goji berries

* Bee Pollen (contains all the essential amino acids plus quite a few more, such as arginine, aspartic acid, glutamine, proline, glycine alanine, etc.)

* Royal Jelly

* Blue-Green algae (60% protein)

* Spirulina (65-71%)

* Marine phytoplankton (over 60%)

and here are some more superfoods which contain high amounts of amino acids . . .

HIGH PROTEIN FOODS

* Mesquite powder (approximately 20% protein)

What Is a Raw Food Diet and How Can It Help You? – Huffington Post

Debate has raged over recent years about whether we are designed to eat our food cooked or raw. There are fierce advocates on both sides: Michael Pollan’s book Cooked representing the camp that argues our species survived because of our cooked diet, and documentaries such as Simply Raw, which documents the trials and tribulations of six diabetes sufferers who go on a raw foods diet for one month and effectively cure themselves of their disease.

Certainly, before the discovery of fire, we would have eaten all of our food raw. Even up until the invention of modern cooking technologies we may have eaten most of our food raw because of the time and energy saving aspect of eating this way.

But the question about what is best for our bodies has been asked in more recent times, over the last few hundred years, as chronic diseases appeared to skyrocket.

High-profile celebrity endorsements for raw food diets has particularly generated more interest in this foodstyle. Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Carol Alt, Uma Thurman and Sting have all been vigorous proponents of raw food diets, enthusiastically touting both the health benefits (including weight loss) as well as environmental benefits of this way of eating.

Hundreds of raw food restaurants have sprung up in major cities all over the world, not to mention the thousands of juice bars and even mainstream restaurants that now include raw vegan alternatives on their menus.

But what actually IS a raw food diet? And how do you get it right nutritionally?

There are various ways of eating a raw food diet but all involve eating only foods that can be eaten in their whole, natural state, unheated beyond temperatures of 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Many proponents choose to eat a vegan diet consisting primarily of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouted grains and legumes, fermented foods, superfoods and sea vegetables, eschewing all animal products.

Some proponents choose to eat raw animal milks or cultured yoghurts and cheeses and some even eat raw meat, but these foods should only be eaten with extreme care due to the possibility of bacterial contamination.

Many people embarking on a raw food diet decide to consult a raw food educational resource, coach, naturopath or nutritionist in order to make a safe transition to this way of eating. It’s important to make sure that your sources of protein, fats, healthy carbohydrates as well as iron, calcium and omega 3s are taken care of through your diet.

Turning off your stove or oven, it turns out, is not so difficult either. To eat a raw food diet you don’t really need any equipment at all. In fact the healthiest raw food diets involve very little processing of food. However, to make an easier transition, making foods that might resemble cooked foods in some way, equipment such as a good high-powered blender, juicer, mason jars for sprouting, a dehydrator for intensifying the flavors of raw foods and perhaps a spiralizer for creating those cool noodles out of zucchini, carrot, beetroot or cucumber, can make life a lot more exciting.

What to expect when you go raw

Initially, proponents say they experience a period of detox or ‘healing crisis’ where they may feel some flu-like symptoms, lethargy, headaches or skin breakouts. These pass on fairly quickly and a new-found energy and vibrance is ushered in.

Some choose to use a raw food eating plan for a short detox period, while others choose it as a way of life over a longer period. Either way, the benefits of weight-loss and general feelings of well-being are often touted by people who try this particular diet.
