Chicken shop staff were caught on camera preparing raw food on the floor in a video branded “disgusting” by the shop’s own head office.
In the clip a worker can be seen grabbing the meat from a tray on the floor before dunking it in batter, then throwing it into flour and tossing the food around with his bare hands.
Another worker walks into shot, with plastic bags on their feet before joking with a bottle of chemicals over the bloody chicken.
One man commentating the video can be heard saying: “This is what we do every day.”
The footage, which was shared on Facebook and watched more than 58,000 times, was reported to have been filmed in a branch on Popeyes in Homestead Road, Houston in the USA.
The man who made the video has since been sacked from the company.
A spokesman for Popeyes told ABC news: “We are aware of the very negative video we believe was created by a terminated employee of a franchise-owned Popeyes restaurant last year and then posted on Facebook recently.
“What is shown in the video is completely unacceptable and violates all Popeyes food preparation policies and guidelines.
“Frankly, we are disgusted.”
He added: “The franchise owner has reviewed his employee food preparation practices and given his assurance that what is shown in the video is not standard or acceptable in his or any other Popeyes restaurant.
“Both the Health department and a Popeyes corporate team inspected the restaurant yesterday and found it met all food preparation and safety standards.
“This video is unacceptable on every level, and we will investigate this incident fully and take all necessary action.”
