Raw Food – The Natural Diet

From vegetarian to non vegetarian, raw food is something which provides you “Mother Nature’s” direct nutrition. Free from all the processing and cooking, raw food is the most natural diet available to you as it is, in its purest and natural form. A common raw diet basically consists more of vegan food than other dairy and non vegetarian foods.

Raw diet is uncooked or is not heated more than 40 °C as the plants and vegetables lose the most nutritional ingredients when cooked over 40 °C, experts say. It also heals and provides necessary enzymes to the body which increase resistance power and stamina rapidly.

One of the reasons of physical disorders in human beings is the change in lifestyle. Over the past 100 years it has made almost everything artificial; even food.

Its Benefits

If you are having the raw diet regularly, you need to stop worrying about all the diseases and health issues. Let the most natural diet work for you.

Researchers have found that raw diet not only reduces chances of severe diseases such as cancer, heart problems, obesity and diabetes etc. but it also deals with your daily stress, tiredness, mood changes and depression along with other various unnoticeable issues.

Have a look at how raw diet works perfectly for your day to day and long term health issues:

Energy and Stamina:

Natural raw food consists of vital enzymes which recharge your energy level and result in increased stamina. Raw foods increase your energy level and are very easy for your body to digest.

Lose Weight:

Raw food is a high fiber diet which helps your body in maintaining the proper balance. Raw food is free from salt and supplements and harmful oils which junk food contains. Raw food is the only diet which contains very low cholesterol yet it provides maximum energy.

Look Younger:

It is said that “we are what we eat” so what would you like to choose between a burger containing huge amount of calorie and a fresh plate of salad with raw vegetables. The anti-oxidants and enzymes in raw food heal various small deficiencies which we are not aware of. Consequently we look young, beautiful and energetic, same as raw food does.

Mental Health:

Half of your mental pressure is reduced by the above benefits which raw food provides. Other than this, raw diet contains various components helpful in reducing anxiety. Raw diet increases the blood flow and oxygen in the brain.

Researchers say that due to some of the components of raw diet may positively affect our brain which in turn affects our thoughts and we become more aware and alert in our work.

Raw Food Detox Diet For Seniors

A raw food diet is a nutrient rich diet of mostly fresh fruits and vegetables. Nutrient rich equals stronger bones, healthier skin and a greater resistance to disease. Older people tend to have brittle bones that break easily, liver spots and blotchy skin, and they get sick easily. A diet of processed and cooked foods is responsible. The raw food diet is a low-toxin diet.

During a detox diet you eliminate the toxins from cooked and processed foods. Live foods are also rich in the antioxidants that help to prevent cancer and reduce the aging process. Some of the foods richest in antioxidants are blueberries, blackberries, spinach, tomatoes, red grapes, pomegranates, cranberries, prunes, raspberries, strawberries, apples, pecans, cherries and plums. Eat plenty of these foods during your raw food detox to cleanse your body of toxins.

The older population is susceptible to chronic disease and decreased organ function mainly due to nutrition. Decreased organ function may affect the digestive system, absorption, metabolism or the excretion of nutrients. A large percentage, approximately 80 percent of people over 65 may suffer from one or more chronic diseases.

Nutrition, known to interact with the aging process in various ways, is an important factor in their prevention and/or recuperation. There is no better method of obtaining proper nutrition than a detox diet. Don’t worry about going hungry while eating these foods because you will eat as much as you want to. Your hunger will always be satiated.

Don’t let anyone tell you that your activities should be completely restricted due to your age. OK, maybe you have slowed down a little bit as you aged, but that doesn’t mean you should just sit around and age more. On the other hand, if you’re 70 you don’t suddenly decide you can run a marathon. However, you can take walks, ride a bike or workout. There are workout videos for seniors… and… you can eat right.

A lot of people have a hard time with change, but just to incorporate 25 percent more natural fruits and vegetables and nuts into your diet is a good beginning. It’ll get your detox started and you will probably feel good enough about it to forge ahead until your diet is at least 75 percent raw. Raw foods are rich in the nutrients you will not get in processed and cooked foods. You should also drink 8 glasses of water every day.

Fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and legumes are all great raw foods and there are many recipes available to help you make attractive and tasty dishes. Eating raw foods will naturally reduce your caloric intake and increase the nutrients your body requires. The average person gains 1.5 pounds per year. By age 40 what we have always teasingly called “old age chub” sometimes begins to become apparent. That’s because at 40 you’re not as active as you once were.

You’re sitting in an office all day instead of playing football. You’re getting the kids fed and settled down instead of going out dancing. Stuff happens. Eating a diet of 75 percent raw foods is a natural weight control. No, you won’t waste away. Once your body reaches its natural weight, it’ll stabilize itself.

Everybody, regardless of age needs to drink water. You sweat, you use the bathroom; you are constantly eliminating fluids from your body. Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water (preferably 8) every day will replace the eliminated fluids and keep your body hydrated. When you are dehydrated your blood pressure can drop causing you to become light-headed or dizzy; you may even pass out. You can experience organ failure if your condition goes untreated. Your urine should be clear or very light yellow when you are drinking enough water.

Usually seniors living on their own are still functioning pretty well. One very good thing about raw food is there’s very little or no cooking, so, if getting around in the kitchen is becoming hazardous the danger of getting burned is out, you don’t have to spend a lot of prep time to make your carrots look attractive… and you don’t have to wake up one morning and declare yourself a raw foodist. You can incorporate raw foods into your diet at a rate that is comfortable for you.

Raw food detox can be a problem if you’re not moving around too well. You may want to make sure you’re near the bathroom. Another very good thing about eating raw foods is that you don’t have to read labels. You know what you’re buying. If there’s some processed foods you have to eat because of something in your medication, by all means, do so. You may eventually find that you don’t need as much medicating once the nutrients of natural foods kick in.

And most importantly, always listen to the advice of your health care provider. Don’t be surprised if your physician suggested you increase the amounts of fruits and vegetables in your diet. A raw food detox diet will improve the way you look and feel.

Easy Raw Food Recipes

You may be a raw food newbie looking for recipes that are simple and easy, or you may be a raw food veteran who’s too busy to really have enough time to spend preparing your healthy meal. Well, the most common raw vegan recipe that is very easy and quick to whip up is your typical raw salad. How boring. Lucky you, you’ve landed on a page that has a list of some very easy raw food recipes you can prepare in just five minutes or less!

Before we get down on the list, let me tell you this: if you don’t already have it, you should at least get yourself a blender or a food processor! Trust me. These kitchen tools are like every raw fooder’s best buddies! They’re very handy and can make everything so much easier.

But if you don’t have a blender or a food processor (yet) you can first try making one of these easy raw food recipes that don’t need any equipment, like marinated mushrooms or chocolate fudge.

Raw marinated mushroom recipe

You will absolutely love this very delicious recipe. You will need sliced mushrooms, olive oil and raw soy sauce (nama shoyu). Just pour the oil and soy sauce over your mushrooms, gently stir, and let it sit for about five minutes. And that’s it. Too easy? Well it is really that easy! Raw food recipes don’t have to be complicated to be tasty and these raw marinated mushrooms have a real cooked feel to them. Of course, you can pair this dish with other raw vegan recipes like raw salads or raw soups. Explore the options and surprise yourself!

Raw chocolate fudge in 1 minute

No it’s not a typo. You can really produce raw chocolate fudge in just 1 minute. Or maybe even less! Simply mix cocoa powder with coconut oil and honey in a small bowl. Watch the measurements and don’t add too much of any ingredient though. I’m sure it won’t take long for you to mix it as I’m also sure it won’t stay long in its bowl. Easy raw food recipes like this can be made even without you having to stay in the kitchen.

Rawtarian’s silky green smoothie recipe

Okay, here’s one of the easy raw food recipes that needs a blender, and a high-speed blender is highly recommended. For this recipe just blend bananas, oranges, an apple, spinach, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and/or chia seeds together. The silky texture is what really makes it so tasty because green smoothies like this usually need to be blended until silky smooth to taste the best.

Raw salmon salad pate recipe

The name may sound like it’s going to be a complicated one to make but in truth, this one is so easy! Raw food recipes like this are surprisingly divine for your taste buds. All you need to do is process sunflower seeds into a fine meal, then add red pepper, sun-dried tomatoes, sea salt and dill to be processed until well combined. Transfer it from the food processor into a bowl and you may add chopped celery if you like. It’s that simple and you already have your raw salmon salad pate!

These are just some of my many easy raw food recipes that you can try out. Whether you are still just transitioning to a raw food diet or already enjoying a healthy raw food lifestyle, exploring more creative and imaginative healthy recipes that not only save you time, but also ingredients, is rather satisfying. Sometimes, especially in cases like this, less is surely more.

What Makes People Eat Raw Food?

Throughout kitchens and restaurants around the world, there is a revolution taking place. People are turning to Raw Food as opposed to the cooked food that society has traditionally eaten. Which begs the question: Why?

One of the primary ways we experience the world around us is through what we eat, drink and think. So why then would people be foolish enough to put food into their bodies that isn’t cooked? After some extensive research, it turns out these people might not be as foolish as originally thought.

The assumption behind cooking food is that the original form of Nature, as it exists, must be altered in some way in order for it to exist in an artificial form inside us. Or simply put, when feeding something natural (our body), it is necessary to give it something unnatural.

The problem is that when food is cooked it becomes less than it was before, never more. According to International Best-Selling author and Raw Food expert, David Wolfe, cooking alters organic molecules. When those molecules are ingested, they become part of our tissues. Thus eating cooked food alters our tissue at a fundamental level.

Cooked food is dense. It leaves a toxic ash residue in the body after it has been processed. Over many years, the debris from this toxic residue accumulates and is deposited throughout our tissue. Eventually the toxins reach a crisis level, clogging and poisoning our body’s systems which can lead to heart attacks, strokes and cancer.

What is Raw Food?

Raw food is alive, it still contains the vital nutrients and enzymes that gave the food life in the first place. Cooking food (above 239?F) destroys all of the enzymes and the food becomes “dead”.

Enzymes are vital in that the body requires them to digest and absorb food, effectively helping to turn it into fuel.

Enzymes also are essential for many of the body’s processes such as breathing, digestion, circulation, cognition and the prevention of inflammation and aging.

Cooked Food = No Enzymes

Eating cooked and processed foods makes one groggy, affects moods, lower’s one’s level of attention and interferes with the body’s optimal functioning. A poor diet of highly cooked foods can also have a detrimental effect on longevity.

A cooked seed will not grow. It has had the life burnt out of it. How then would eating cooked food be the best way to help us grow?

Cooked food was not here when we first appeared on Earth.

Raw food was.

Raw-Animal or Raw-Plant Food?

Some people opt for a raw-animal diet, however typically the health of these people weakens over time, for a number of reasons. Namely meat can be very high in fat, cholesterol, calories and disease and bacterial contamination.

The other option is a raw-plant based diet.

People who follow a raw-plant based diet benefit from vital enzymes which allow the body to fully digest food, enzymes which are typically lost when food is cooked.

Health benefits include:

  • Having more energy
  • Skin has a much healthier complexion
  • Improved digestion
  • Weight Loss
  • A significant drop in the risk of developing heart and cardiovascular diseases [1]

Warning: Detox Alert

Raw/Live foods are naturally detoxifying, the more toxicity your body has, the more of a reaction you could have to these cleansing foods. You may look and feel worse before you look and feel better!

This is completely natural and is the body’s way of releasing all the rubbish that has been stored up over time – if this happens to you, feel good as its working and you’re on your way to a healthy active life.

Types of Raw Plant Foods include:

1. Fruits

2. Vegetables

3. Nuts

4. Seeds

5. Legumes

6. Flowers

7. Green Sprouts

8. Roots

9. Shoots

10. Water Vegetation (e.g. Sea weeds, Spirulina)

11. Mushrooms

[For the healthiest option, choose organic ingredients from your local market or grocer]

Ultimately, it comes down to a choice…

Give your body the fuel (water and food) it was designed to receive naturally, or consume the processed, artificial substances on our supermarket shelves designed to be addictive, and live with the health consequences. As we have full control over what we put in our body, that decision is up to us.

Every Other Day Diet Vs Raw Food Diet – Which is Right For You?

It seems that wherever you turn there’s a different eating concept of program which is supposed to help you lose weight and look better. Naturally, you also want to feel healthier, not just lose fat.

In today’s article I want to compare two methods to lose weight and lead a healthier life. One is called the Every Other Day Diet and the other is known as the Raw Food diet. Which method is better for you? Which should you choose?

Before I begin to compare these two methods according to a list of criteria, let’s go over what these programs are in general.

The Every Other Day Diet (EODD for short) is a weight loss program in which you can eat your favorite foods every other day even if these are the kind of foods you will normally not find on any diet plan. These may include pizza, burgers, and so on.

Naturally, this program does have specific guidelines and you need to eat according to them. But, if you do, you can lose weight without really depriving yourself.

The Raw Food diet is a general term for programs which prescribe eating food in its most natural forms. This is usually vegetarian, if not vegan, programs, so meat eaters will not like this. The idea is that because modern food is filled with chemicals, pesticides, antibiotics, drugs, and other pollutants, that we’re getting sicker and fatter simply because we’re eating bad food and we need to stop.

Ease of Use

I believe that EODD is easier to do than most raw food diets because it’s less restrictive and does not require a radical lifestyle change. However, you can get used to eating raw. It’s an acquired habit.

Support

EODD does have a support system but so do many online raw food diet plans such as Yuri Elkaim’s Eating For Energy program. I believe support is very important which is why I prefer online programs to books.

Exercise

Raw Food diets as a whole are not centered around exercise. Some include exercise guidelines and some don’t. With EODD you will need to workout regularly to get the best results you can. There is no getting around it.

Health Wise

This is a point of contention. If you believe that eating “modern” food is bad for you (and there are experts which say as much) then a Raw Food diet will look healthier to you. If you don’t, then you don’t need to go to such extremes.

I will say this: there is truth in the claims that our foods are not as clean as they can and should be. However, you need to realize that a eating raw is a commitment to a totally different way of life, so you need to be ready for it.

Each of these 2 methods can work for you. Just choose the one which seems right for you and your life.

What Is Raw Food? Your Raw Food Diet Questions Answered

Perhaps you have heard of the terms ‘raw food,’ ‘raw living’ or ‘raw foodism,’ and you are intrigued and curious about what these terms denote. What is raw food? What is raw foodism and the raw food diet? Understanding these terms are really quite simple. This article will answer these questions as well as explain why people eat raw food and how to go raw. You may be amazed at why people go on this lifestyle, and perhaps you will conclude that they are the sensible ones!

Raw Food (Definition): Food that has not been processed, cooked or heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 46 degrees Celsius.

The purpose of this is to ensure that the food contains its optimal nutrient and enzyme content (Cooking at a temperature above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius) destroys most of the nutrients and enzymes in food). It refers particularly to natural, healthy, plant-based foods. It excludes all over-processed, over-cooked, zero-nutrient, preservative-laden foods that are so prevalent today.

Foods Consumed:

This diet consists of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, dried fruits and berries, sprouts, juices, dehydrated crackers and breads and avocado.

It may also involve gourmet foods such as dips and spreads, date and nut ‘brownies,’ desserts and sweets, sauces, cacao (healthy chocolate), coconut smoothies, nutrient-dense “soups,” zucchini/carrot “pasta,” plus an infinite variety of other gourmet foods that can be made to accommodate this healthy lifestyle.

Related Terminology (Definitions):

Raw Foodism: refers to the lifestyle and action of eating a raw food diet, as well as to the belief that this food will help to heal and nurture a persons’ mind, body and soul.

Living Foods: synonym of ‘raw food,’ – this phrase also refers to any foods that are uncooked and unprocessed (I.e., are consumed in their natural, unadulterated state).

Raw Living: synonym of ‘raw foodism’ and ‘the raw food diet’ – it is the lifestyle of a person who consumes only natural, plant-based, nutrient-dense foods.

Raw vegan diet: This term refers not only to the consumption of uncooked and unprocessed foods, but also to the exclusion of all animal products including meat, dairy, eggs and honey. (Note that the raw food diet is generally vegan anyway, unless a person were to consume raw meat and eggs, which is very rare.)

Why people eat raw food (Benefits):

People adopt this diet to benefit from its optimal nutrient and enzyme content. They nurture and feed their bodies with an abundance of minerals, proteins, vitamins and other important nutrients for a healthy body, and as a result, often see profound healing.

Raw foodism is well-renowned for its health benefits and amazing healing abilities. Persons adopt this lifestyle to clear their skin problems (acne, psoriasis, eczema etc.), for more energy, to treat their depression, to lose weight (a very common reason), to detoxify their sick body, to prevent, treat or reverse chronic disease (such as diabetes, cancer, obesity or chronic pain), for longevity, to recover from addictions, for beauty, or to develop a positive outlook on life (I.e., a zest for life!).

How To Go Raw:

Overnight or gradually: A person can adopt the raw food vegan diet by one of two ways: overnight or gradually. Both ways are perfectly fine, but some people are daunted by immediately adopting this lifestyle so they prefer to make gradual steps to slowly transition to this lifestyle. They may do this over a matter of weeks, months or years depending on their health or strength of mind!

Percentage: One may choose to eat 100%, 90%, 75%, or 50% raw… it’s up to each individual how much raw food they decide to consume on this diet. Some may start at 50%, then transition to 75%. If they are pleased with how much their health has improved by eating this percentage of raw food, then they may choose to make the decision to go 95% to 100% raw!

Trial: One can also ‘test out’ this lifestyle for a few weeks or months to see if it is suitable or compatible for their needs or way of living. Keep in mind that it is often the most challenging at the beginning, but after some time will get easier.

This is certainly a health-friendly lifestyle and will do wonders to your skin, hair, nails, waistline, energy levels and happiness. It’s no wonder that so many people are ditching their unhealthy, over-processed, overcooked diets and are replacing them with this super healthy way of living!

A Raw Foods Diet You Can Live With – The 60-40 Plan

For most of us, it’s hard to think that we can feel satisfied eating like rabbits (lettuce, carrots, raw vegetables) and more importantly, many of us feel that we would ever be able to stick to a diet that consisted of only those foods. However, there are numerous health and weight loss benefits to raw foods diets-benefits that we experience while still allowing for a full dinner and other treats.

Here’s the good news about starting a raw foods diet: You don’t have to make it a lifestyle and you certainly don’t need to feel confined to eating only raw foods when you’re hungry. What I propose is called the 60/40 raw foods diet, which means that 60% of the foods you eat are raw and 40% are cooked, regular foods. Simple… and unintimidating.

Personally, I’ve known several women who have had enormous success with the 60/40 raw foods diet because although they’re eating just as much (if not more) food than before, 60% of those calories are coming from wholesome foods. This means that their fat and caloric intake is drastically reduced for most of the day and they can save that 40% of their diet for a healthy but filling, cooked meal and perhaps-if they’re feeling daring-a little dessert and a glass of red wine afterwards.

What makes the 60/40 plan for eating raw foods such a delight is that you never need to go hungry and furthermore, the calories you take in are packed with essential vitamins and minerals to pack more of a punch that that one low-carb candy bar you’ve been desperately gnawing on for food satisfaction all day. The natural simple sugars contained in just one apple or banana are enough to give you the kick you need to start your day off right and the calories and fats found n most raw foods are far more sustaining than the complex, processed sugars that are found in many treats-and even in the diet-brand bars you might buy at the store.

Most women who have tried the partial raw foods diet find that the best system for them is to do all foods for breakfast and lunch and then, by dinner, when they are most craving something hearty and filling, they can indulge at will in a delicious, full dinner without regard to calories or fat intake.

Not worrying about fats and calories? How can that be?

Because if you are on a low-fat and low-calorie diet already, the calories and fats contained in your breakfast, lunch, and snacks will likely only amount to 40% or less of your daily calories. That gives you room to breathe at dinner (within reason, of course) and is a satisfying, much-needed break to what you’ve been eating all day.

Give it a try and you’ll see that you feel better with a diet comprised of fresh, healthy foods and that you never go hungry and can have the luxury of a great dinner, desert, and perhaps a glass (or two-be decadent) of wine.
